Ibsenhuset is Telemark's cultural center and an important part of Ibsenbyen Skien.

Ibsenhuset has since its opening in 1973 been Telemark's cultural center and the house celebrated its 50th anniversary with a series of anniversary events in autumn 2023. Thanks to its forward-looking and airy architecture, the house still stands out as a modern building today. The main hall is the largest amphitheater between Oslo and Kristiansand with room for 855 people.

Ibsenhuset offers performances and concerts in all genres and for all age groups, as well as art exhibitions, courses, conferences, fairs, meetings, parties and other events. Here you get all the necessary facilities, good universal design and parking right across the street. The cultural center also has its own restaurant, "Henrik & Kompani", which offers culinary gems for the palate.

Henrik Ibsen and Ibsenhuset

Ibsenhuset is an important part of Ibsenbyen Skien. As the name suggests, the cultural center is named after Henrik Ibsen. All the halls and conference rooms are also named after his characters. The program includes events about, by and inspired by the great author. This is also where the national Ibsen Prize is awarded every year.

Ibsenhuset is also home to Skien Library. They have one of Norway's largest collections of Ibsen's own drama with over 700 titles about and by Ibsen. In and around Ibsenhuset there are also a number of sculptures of both Ibsen himself and his characters.
