Welcome to an Ibsen walk in Brekkeparken! Every day at 1 pm from May 10 to August 31, 2025 (except Mondays).

This Ibsen walk explores patrician life in the town of Skien and Ibsen's literature. The Ibsen family was part of the upper class who called themselves patricians. This local elite had a lot of power, and if you were born into a patrician family you would probably remain rich your whole life. On the other hand, if you were born into a poor family, most people remained poor.

In this tour you will also get an insight into Ibsen's literature. Henrik Ibsen is on a par with William Shakespeare and their plays are performed all over the world. Henrik Ibsen's first publication was Catalina, but it was not very popular. Ibsen's most famous play is A Doll's House.

Practical info The tour takes 45 minutes and starts at Ibsenstua. The stua is located at Klosterporten in Hans Hoels gate, the old souvenir and ticket office in Brekkeparken. We walk in the park on gravel paths. A few places are difficult to reach with a wheelchair, such as the gazebo where we look at the city model from the time before the fire in 1886, and inside the main courtyard. But call us/send a message in advance, and we will prepare rails to the main house. When the tour is over, you can enjoy good food and drinks at one of the cafes in the park.

Join the city walk! With the same ticket, you can join the city walk In the footsteps of Ibsen at 2 pm. It focuses on the childhood of Henrik Ibsen, when he grew up in Skien.

Price: Adults 100,- Children 3-15 years 40,-
