This summer you can get to know Henrik Ibsen better where the story began. In Brekkeparken you are invited to take part in guided tours, city walks, readings, theatrical experiences and pleasant café visits – with Ibsen at the centre.

In the footsteps of Ibsen

What was the upbringing of the boy who would become one of the world's most famous playwrights like? In Brekkeparken you can join tours and walks that take you through Henrik Ibsen's childhood and youth in Skien.

During the summer season, there is a city tour every day at 1 pm, except Mondays. The summer season lasts from June 1 to August 31.

In the VEV museum building you can also join the daily Ibsen 30-minute tour, which provides an introduction to Ibsen's life and how his upbringing in Skien influenced the poet.

The tour is at 11:00 from Tuesday-Sunday during the summer season.

Reading aloud by Henrik Ibsen every Thursday in July this summer.

Reading aloud and theater

Every Thursday at 1:00 PM in July, you are also invited to Digital Pause – a reading aloud of Ibsen's plays , a quiet moment with a break from the summer heat with excerpts from some of his most famous works.

On August 30th, you can experience the theatrical walk Harselas eller heder? , which explores Ibsen's relationship with Norway, Norwegians and his hometown of Skien. You will see excerpts from two of Henrik Ibsen's plays along the way, performed by Karen Kjeøen Erikstad and Carl Henrik Ekblom.

The summer ends with Literary Afternoon Tea on August 29, where you will receive an entertaining introduction to Ibsen's entire dramatic production - served alongside classic afternoon tea.

A taste of summer

A visit to Brekkeparken can be combined with a trip to Ibsenstua , which serves freshly baked waffles, ice cream, Ibsen's honey cake and coffee throughout the summer. If you're lucky, you can also experience the vintage cars that are occasionally exhibited at Borgestua.
